Silence

Can I wander through a forest
And get lost amongst the trees?
Cause I’m getting kind of lonely
And I need some space to breathe.
And I feel if I’m surrounded
by all these living, silent things
I might find rest and quiet,
yet I might be ill at ease…
In their silence there are whispers
of the world that’s crowding them.
And in their whispers there are secrets
of stories way back when.
And in their stories there are ghosts
of once upon a time.
Of children’s merry laughter
stolen by age’s crimes.
And knights seeking adventure
with princesses not far behind.

Now I see their silence as it can only be:
Just a cacophony of memories,
falling
In this gathering of leaves.
